Top 3 ways to be productive when working from home...

If you are like most people, you may find it hard to stay on task, while working from home. Although, working from home is becoming more and more popular, it's not that easy to jump right in. Check out our tips for staying productive.

Dedicate a space solely for work...

Find the best place in your home to work and make it "strictly business". If you have a home office, try to only do work-related tasks in this part of the home. Once you go into this space, you are "going to work". Ensure that there are no distractions, no personal emails, no Netflix streaming... just business. If you don't have breaks specific times, schedule them throughout the work day and leave this space during breaks.

Set expectations...

Sometimes when you work from home, friends and family see this as an opportunity to have more access to you during the day. Advise them that although you are home, you must always take your job seriously.Inform them of your work hours, and ask that they respect them. They would not constantly call your phone when you are on the normal work site, or pop up unexpectedly, so the same rules apply.

Stick to a Routine...

Each work day, get up and get ready. Mentally prepare yourself to go to work. Whatever you would usually do before leaving your home, continue to do so. That doesn't mean you have to wear a three piece suit each day, but at least get dressed. If you stay in your pajamas all day, subconsciously, you will just want to be comfortable, sleep, or lounge around. If you have small kids or pets, ensure that they have care during your work hours. You definitely do not want to have a precious baby crying or dog barking in the background during an important business meeting. Once the work day is done, log out and "leave work". Overall, it's best to ensure that you still keep your work life and personal life separate as much as possible.

These are just a few ways to make the most of your work day from home. We'd love to hear ways that you stay productive while telecommuting. Connect with us on social media.
